Year-end peak season: crucial period for DIMOLOG.

The stakes are high because this period can represent up to 30% of DIMOLOG’s annual logistics activity within just a few weeks at the end of the year. It concerns the majority of DIMOTRANS Group’s logistics entity sites, which supply the retail and wholesale networks of B2B customers upstream, and then move on to the B2C peak season to deliver to our customers’ end consumers.

The year-end holiday period, particularly with Black Friday and Christmas, represents the real peak season for our Logistics Business Unit’s activities, concentrating very high activity over a few weeks, or even days. Our teams in Lyon, Paris, Normandy, and Brittany have been on the front line for several weeks before this peak season to ensure order preparation.

“This year, the peak season started around November 11th, with the celebration of ‘Single’s Day’ in China. This day has an international impact and clearly marks the beginning of the discount period for some of our customers. A year-end period that will end during the Christmas holidays, depending on the natural cessation of consumer purchases. All consumer goods sectors benefit from this prosperous purchasing period. Obviously, toys, cosmetics and perfumes, the textile/footwear sector, as well as musical instruments or cultural products will ride this wave with a range of offers and commercial actions to which we must adapt.” Matthieu Glâtre – Sales and Development Manager for DIMOLOG’s Brittany division.

Indeed, this is a crucial period for all DIMOLOG sites, with significant pressure on teams, which are doubled to absorb a significant increase in volumes within a few weeks. These can reach up to several tens of thousands of packages per day for some customers, requiring careful daily workload management for the teams.

This is anticipated from the middle of the year with forecasts and close collaboration with customers and partners, particularly carriers who will ensure distribution.

“We co-manage with our customers an intelligent and almost painless delay management for the end consumer, with one to three days of activity smoothing between preparation and distribution. We have creative customers who will highlight bundled offers, gift sets, advent calendars, or specific year-end products, allowing us to demonstrate our agility in terms of packaging.” Matthieu Glâtre

To meet the challenge of this intense phase, a set of targeted actions has been implemented since the start of the academic year for efficient recruitment and team training. DIMOLOG has organized the ramp-up of activity to reach a peak where its teams and organization are optimal to absorb the new volumes. To do this, a set of fixed-term contracts (6/9 months) is preferred, which will of course be reinforced by temporary teams on specific days. The management team is also strengthened to ensure the continuity of service provided by the various daily teams and guarantee the quality of commitments.

At DIMOLOG, seasonality peaks are nonetheless recurrent throughout the year, with, for example, the classic sales periods in summer and winter, and shorter events such as Valentine’s Day, Father’s Day, or Mother’s Day.

For your information:

Seasonality peaks or peak seasons in logistics refer to periods of peak or high activity during which the demand for transport, storage, and delivery of goods reaches particularly high levels. These seasonality peaks require adapted logistics management to meet the significant increase in volumes, while maintaining quality and deadlines.
